ESRA#: 2010-1UT
Status: Adopted

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 55 lbs
Variety: Bench

This is Sam, Sam I am! Sam is a beautiful bench-bred Springer who came into rescue from a shelter where his family took him when they could no longer care for him. He was a favorite with everyone at the shelter. Sam is a very sweet and cuddly dog. He is a sight to behold we he prances around like a show dog strutting his stuff!

Sam is housetrained and does not like going in crates or kennels, as he lived most of his previous life in an outdoor kennel. He has impeccable manners and he will Sit on command while his meals are being fixed. Sam loves his new indoor life, sleeps right by the bed and will even get up on the bed, but only if he is invited.

He gets along very well with the other two dogs in his foster home and is also good with the cats. Sam tells his foster mom that his ideal Forever Home would include another dog and a stay-at-home mom or dad who can give him the love and attention he deserves. He would also like his own toy box with lots of squeaky toys, and a few children to play with would be great, too!

Sam really loves to go on hikes and walks, and don't forget that a good supply of doggy treats will keep everyone happy! He likes gentle correction and would prefer a big fenced yard to play in, as long as he isn't left outside alone. Sam is much more comfortable being in the house with his people.

All Sam needs is a Forever Family who will love and cuddle and play with him. Could that family be yours?

ESRA#: 2010-64UT
Status: Adopted

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 30 lbs
Variety: Field

Please meet Jin! Jin is a lovely little dog. She has an extremely beautiful coat that is dark brown and very shiny. Jin has excellent manners and is well behaved in the house. She is great with all the other dogs in her foster home and seems to be fine with cats, too.

Jin is very loving and gentle. Although she did not receive the best treatment from her previous home, she does not have any fear of people and loves to be with her humans.
Jin is crate trained, but she has been known to jump a few fences. Her new family may need to make sure she has plenty of indoor time with her people, and that she doesn't feel the need to find new friends outside her yard. Jin has learned to use the dog door at her foster home and is really great with children.

Jin does have one bad eye that may need to be removed in the future. The family that brought Jin to the shelter told them she hurt her eye in a hunting accident. But no matter what happened to her, Jin does not seem to be affected by it at all and she is a very happy dog who is full life!

Jin is a very sweet and petite dog who would love to find a kind and loving Forever Home. Please call if you think Jin is the right little girl for your home and family.

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 52 lbs

If you are looking for the perfect Springer and are ready to make a match, then Buster could be the dog for you. Buster is very healthy and extremely happy. He has never met a person he didn't like! He has great house manners, and he knows how to Sit, Wait, Shake, and Roll Over. Buster is such a smart and talented dog! He loves a good road trip, but when he is at home he doesn't ever want to leave his comfortable fenced yard.

Buster still needs a little help in working on his leash manners, and he loves to wait for you on the couch while you are away. However, simply flipping up the couch cushions will give Buster the message to stay off the furniture until you get home.

Buster is such a love, and he will plop his soft head firmly into your lap whenever he gets the chance. He is also great at follow-the-leader, and he will follow you everywhere that you let him! He always enjoys kisses on his fuzzy ears, and he really looks forward to a nice walk everyday.

It would be good if you had a laid-back doggy companion for Buster. He has a very good temperament with other dogs. He is good with kids, but he may be a little too big and energetic for small children. Buster has not been around cats since he has been in rescue, so we don't know how well he would get along with them.

Two things Buster doesn't really like are going into a crate or staying home alone for long periods of time. Something else he doesn't like is to be grabbed or yanked by the collar, but then, nobody really likes that! A little obedience training could help Buster become the best Springer ever.

Buster is looking for a home where someone can be with him much of the time. He would love a Forever Family with a sense of humor, and one who is willing to supply him with all the stuffed toys he can fit into his mouth!

So look at your checklist and see if Buster is the perfect match for you. He is waiting patiently to meet you, but you shouldn't wait too long!

ESRA#: 2009-1143UT
Status: Adopted

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 55 lbs
Variety: Field

Please meet Mr. Sigmund, or, as his foster home lovingly calls him, Siggy! Sigmund came into rescue when his family could no longer care for him. Their nickname for him was "The Monster" when our ESRA volunteer went to take a look at him. It turns out that his behavior was caused by a horrible ear infection. He couldn't stand to have anyone or anything touch his ears because they hurt him so much. Poor Siggy! Who could blame him for being cranky when he was in so much pain?

Today both ears are healing very well and Siggy is starting to come out of his shell and develop his true and loving Springer personality! He is a very smart dog who is now housetrained. He has learned to use the doggy door, and he listens to his foster mom.

Sigmund is an extremely affectionate boy who loves being constantly at the side of his people. He enjoys car rides, is a great snuggler, and stays close when he is off leash. Siggy is a very accomplished fetcher if you throw a ball or stick or toy for him! He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and doesn't seem to bother with the cats. Sigmund is a fun-loving, healthy, happy young Springer.

Siggy would love to find a Forever Home where he can start his new life with a family who will love and appreciate him and who will want to share a happy life together. If you think you might be the right family for Sigmund, please contact us soon!

Status: Adopted

Age: 12 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 28 lbs
Variety: Field

Here is adorable Jane, named after Jane Austen. She came into the shelter as a stray, so there isn't much history on Jane. However, when you meet her you immediately realize what a sweet, energetic and friendly young Springer she is.

Jane is very good in the house and has learned to use the dog door at her foster home. Jane likes all the other dogs she meets and especially enjoys playing with her friend and shelter mate, Jin. She seems to be good with cats and she is also crate trained.

Jane enjoys her people. She is very loving and likes to jump up on the bed and sleep with you if you will let her. Her foster mom feels that the perfect home for Jane would be one where she gets plenty of exercise, as her activity level is medium to high considering that she is a young Springer. Jane is very active and needs a home that will give her lots of love and attention. In return she will fill your life with lots of Springer affection and many years of joy and devotion!

Please call right away if you are interested in finding out more about petite Jane! She is such a sweetheart!

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male

January, 25, 2010 ~

Champ went over the Bridge today and is now free from the debilitating arthritis.  Thanks to ESRA and his adoptive family the last year of his life was the best of all his years.  Sadly, Champ was in too much pain to let the sweet nature of his soul shine.  Those of us who cared for him knew it was there and that is how he’ll be remembered.

NOW: RUN, CHAMP, RUN!!!

Champ is a champion, for all of his years were lived under neglectful conditions. In June of 2009 a neighbor couldn’t watch the way he was being neglected any longer, so he took him in and called ESRA. He was adopted soon after by a loving couple. With sadness in December, 2009, the couple for medical reasons had to relinquish him back to ESRA.

Champ wears his age well. He is a handsome Springer. He has a beautiful, shiny coat and a face as sweet as a Springer puppy.

You don’t get to be as old as Champ without medical issues. Champ has lost his hearing, has cataracts that diminish his vision, and has arthritis in all four legs. None of this stops him. However, these issues result in Champ moving slowly. You need to be aware of where he is so he doesn’t get stepped on or knocked over. His ability to play is gone, so to keep busy he will walk around the house checking things out and looking for the humans. After his exercise he’ll take a nap. He loves this routine.

Things you need to know: Although he is housetrained, he doesn’t give signals. He doesn’t like a crate or car rides--he gets very vocal. We don’t think many commands are important for him to learn at this point in his life. Why make a dog that has a hard time getting up Sit? Stay isn’t necessary because he moves so slowly, it’s almost a Stay anyway. He does know Come through a hand signal. No is necessary but we have to learn how to teach him that. He spent all his life outside so don’t expect him to be happy outside for long. His only medical needs are three pills a day for the arthritis. Because he can’t see well, he will snap at your fingers if you give him treats. We lay the treats down on the floor for him. His senses of smell and taste are as good as ever. He loves food. He likes walks and gets a bit of a spring in his step. The walks are therapeutic for the arthritis but also important for adding some variety to his day.

Champ needs a calm home, preferably as the only dog or with another quiet dog. He needs someone home most of the day, preferably at a home without children and few if any stairs.

The joy of having Champ is giving him the much-needed experience of love, comfort, trust, and security in the remaining years of his life. I must share this sweet moment I experienced with Champ. He was lying on his side. I was stroking his chest from the front and he gave my arm a hard hug with his front legs.

If you think Champ is a match for you, he’d love you to come visit.

ESRA#: 2009-1122UT
Status: Adopted

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black & White
Weight: 55 lbs
Variety: Bench

Let me introduce you to Buddy! Buddy is a big ol' teddy bear of a dog. He is a very mellow fellow who loves being with his people. Buddy has had a hard life lately, but you would never know it from his kind and gentle personality. His records show that he was adopted from a shelter, then left all alone in the mountains for at least a few weeks before someone found him and took him back to another shelter. The shelter was unable to contact his former family.

However, Buddy is very happy and healthy and is now loving life in his wonderful foster home. He is good on a leash, and he really enjoys daily walks. Buddy is still young at heart and often enjoys a little playtime with his toys. Buddy will also follow you around like a shadow, with a ball in his mouth. He is a great companion in the car and would be happy to accompany you on any errands that need to be done!

Buddy is fully housetrained and has great house manners. He is a laid-back, lovable boy. He is extremely easy to live with and have around. Buddy is good with other dogs and is fine with cats as well.

Buddy would love to find a Forever Home and family that will love and adore him as he deserves to be! He will happily return the kindness with lots of Springer love and kisses. It is hard to resist Buddy's sweetness and charm.

Please call right away to meet Buddy. You won't be sorry!

January 18, 2010

Hello! My name is Benny. Right now you can call me Big Ben, because I am carrying around some extra weight. I came into rescue because my previous owner was in the military and got transferred to Japan. I thought about going with him, but I didn’t think I could learn the language. So now I am in rescue, seeking a new family that will cherish me forever.

My new foster family says I am a bit spoiled, but really I am just used to having my family's attention all to myself! Though I like most of my foster brothers and sisters, I don’t know how to interact with them without the other boys getting mad at me. My mom says I probably didn’t get to play with other dogs much before. Thank goodness there are puppies here that play the way I do. There are so many things to learn here. Life was so much easier when I was an only dog. I wish I were one again. My old routine suited me just fine!

Since I am so big, I knock little children over, and I think I am in charge of them, too. Mom says I should have a family with older children or none at all. I just want to be the most loved one in the house.

Mom is so proud of how nice I am on the leash and in the car. She thinks my crate training skills are excellent. She is also impressed with how fast I learned both how to use the doggy door and where my invisible fence boundaries are. I am proud of how I am slimming down! I've lost over six pounds since I've been here. I can play fetch much longer now and can keep up with all of the other dogs on our walks. I am so very good looking now, and in a few months I will be the most handsome Springer in the house!

I learn best with positive reinforcement. I don’t like it when someone acts mean. It makes me get defensive. Gosh, I just want to be loved. I know I am a special boy. I just need a family to let me be THEIR special boy!

Love and BIG kisses,
Benny

ESRA#: 2009-1233KS
Status: Adopted

Age: 11 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 40 lbs
Variety: Field

Meet Miss Bailey! She is almost ready for her first birthday. What a grand little girl she is.

Bailey is a smart and happy girl. She knows how to sit and is learning other manners as well. She is housetrained, crate and invisible-fence trained, and is pretty good on the leash. Bailey loves to go for rides in the car, taking a nap or two along the way. Food is her great motivator. If you have a treat, count her in on the fun!

Bailey loves to bound endlessly when out in the field. The more room there is to run, the happier she is. An active lifestyle would suit her just fine. She could be trained to hunt, although you would have to start at the beginning. Basic obedience classes would help Bailey be a good family member and would provide a great way to bond with her.

Bailey enjoys the other dogs at her foster home. She loves people of all ages and melts you with her puppy ways. Snuggling after a bit of play is a favorite activity of hers. She is untested with cats.

If you are ready for Springer bounce and joy, please contact Miss Bailey's foster parents, Clay and Julie Mohr, for more information. Bailey is a great little girl ready for a great, loving Forever Home.

dogpic

ESRA#: 2009-1268CO
Status: Adopted

Age: 4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 37 lbs
Variety: Field

Miss Martha is a petite girl with a tomboy spirit. She loves to play ball, Frisbee, or really anything that she can run after and fetch. She loves a good chew toy and fuzzy toys aren’t bad, either. Martha likes to play with her foster brothers and sisters. She gets along very well with all of them and has great house manners. She has a good sense of humor which causes her foster parents to laugh at her antics. Martha likes to cuddle and be with her people. She likes everyone she meets. Martha truly is a great dog!

Martha has a lot of energy and will need an active home. She loves to learn and will enjoy spending time with you fine-tuning her obedience skills. Martha does learn quickly and would be a great dog for you to teach her tricks. Martha gets so excited about going for a walk that she pulls on the leash. We are working on this, but she just can’t help herself!

Martha, like most Springers, has the counter-surfing gene. She is curious about everything and wants to be part of all that goes on in the house. Martha is a Velcro Springer. The only thing we can see that Martha does not like is riding in the car. With patience and continued positive experiences, Martha should be able to enjoy being in the car.

Martha is a beautiful Springer who was lovingly relinquished into rescue. If you are looking for a sweet girl who can keep up with an active family, then Martha could be the one for you. If you are interested in learning more about Martha, please contact us.

DIXIE
Cheyenne, WY

dogpic

ESRA#: 2009-951MT
Status: Adopted

Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver & White
Weight: 64 lbs
Variety: Bench

In Dixie's first years of life, she was left outside all the time. When we got her, she had severe ear infections and was overweight.

Dixie's foster mom says she is a total love. She is affectionate, friendly, cheerful and a wonderful companion. She likes playing with her foster brothers. Dixie doesn't have a huge interest in toys, but lately she has liked to take the toilet paper roll off the holder.

Dixie is good with men and women as well as other dogs. She has not been around children. She is not good with cats and loves to bark at them. Dixie likes to go for walks, but needs to learn to heel when on the leash. She does not chew things (except the toilet paper roll), counter surf or dig. She is house trained and doggy door trained. She has not been kept in a crate and does very well without the crate. Dixie is very well behaved. She rides very well in the car and is well behaved. Her Forever Home may always have to treat her ears. Dixie has lost some weight, but she still needs to lose some more.

Everyone who meets Dixie just falls in love with her. She is such a good girl. Dixie needs someone who is going to spend lots of time with her and treat her like the queen she is.
