DIEGO
Denver, CO

ESRA #2007-1010UT

Age: 1-2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Hi there, my name is Diego, and I would love to be your Amigo!!  I am a very good boy with great house manners.  I am housetrained, and am a pro at using the doggy door at my foster home.  I really like to be inside with my people and my friends!  I am a cuddly boy and I am pretty easy-going.  I have been able to get along with several dogs and cats.  I have no need to be the guy-in-charge. I  also ride very well in the car.

I was a pretty skinny boy because there wasn't much to eat on the streets by myself.  But I have it figured out now!! There is plenty of food to eat in my foster home and I am working on getting up to a normal weight.  I have plenty of energy to run and play, and am looking forward to having lots of fun with my Forever Family!  I like other dogs, I am very good with children, and the cat doesn't bother me at all.

I am a beautiful, very nice boy, and am looking for some Forever Amigos! Check me out and see what a great friend I can be for you!

Diego

P.S. I am even better-looking than my pictures!

BANDIT
Calhan, CO

ESRA #2007-991UT

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Eyi-yi-yi-yi, the only thing this Bandit is going to steal is your heart!!  Bandit had a rough start in life.  His previous family knew him only as a bird chasing outlaw and a stud dog.  He had been outdoors most of his life and never knew about fun car rides or warm houses until the day he was rescued!  Bandit sure has learned a lot about the good life since then.

Now Bandit is enjoying life on the farm with all his buddies.  Bandit is a very beautiful boy.  He used to like to be the boss, but after sharing his new foster home with all the guys, he's learning that, alpha stuff, isn't so important anymore. Bandit has great house manners for just having learned recently.  He is house trained, he loves to hang out in his crate, he is very good with children and likes all the other dogs he has gotten to know since he moved in! In fact, Bandit enjoys being around everyone!  He is a very social dog.  He loves company, but doesn't bother the local cat at all.  Bandit also listens and minds very well, now that he has had some training from a very loving foster mom.

One of Bandit's favorite things to do is watch T.V. in the living room at night after everyone else goes to bed!!  Oh yes, this Bandit is living and loving the good life now!  Won't you please consider giving Bandit the very happy life he so richly deserves, in your home?

SONNY
Vernal, UT

ESRA #2007-895UT

Age: 18 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Hi out there, come and meet our Sweet Sonny Boy!  This guy has been through it all in a short amount of time!!  He came into the shelter with a buddy after being on their own for quite a while.  Before he could rest comfortably at his foster home, Sonny had to make a quick trip to the groomers to remove all the painful burrs that were giving him grief.  After just a few days at his new foster home, it was discovered that poor Sonny had a horrible case of parvo and was really sick, but he finally pulled through with flying colors!  That's our Sonny, shining like the sun even through some dark days!!

Sonny is an extremely beautiful dog!  He is housetrained (even all night), he is crate trained, he doesn't chew at all, he likes to counter surf a little, but only to look, not to take anything!  Sonny is pretty-good while walking on a leash, he doesn't bark, his favorite thing is just to be by his people at all times!!  Oh yes, he loves to snuggle on the couch, or in the bed, or wherever you are!  Sonny likes to play with cats, but just for fun, not to hurt anyone.  He also likes other dogs and thinks kids are great!

Please give us a call if you think you would love to have our Sonny boy shining in your family!!!  He would love to shine his beautiful light in your life!

Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 32 lbs.

Doc will need a family that can spend time with him and provide him the training he needs.  After all, he is only a puppy!  He will be waiting to charm his way into your heart.

QUINCY
Laramie, WY

ESRA # 2007-169AZ

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Hi,  My name is Quincy...the Q-man ..the Bionic Dog.  I have had reconstructive surgery on both my hips and now I am ready to rock and roll!  I love walks, rides in the car, and getting a massage in the morning from my favorite person.

I am extremely well housetrained, and know to Sit, Shake, and how to use a doggie door.  I learn quickly, and just love to please you.  People tell me I am really sweet and loveable.

I won't beg for your food, but may be a bit uncomfortable if another dog shows too much interest in my food bowl, so it may be best if I am your only dog. I am really friendly, and would be great with adults or older children.  Hoping to meet you soon, so I can go to my new Forever Home.

ESRA # 2007-768CO

Age: 7 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Hi!  I'm Rosie and I am looking for a Forever Home. I have been shifted around a bit, and would like to find a home where I can settle in. I am petite, friendly, and playful. I like everyone, and love to be with you all the time. In other words, I am a Velcro dog. I like other dogs, and I have been known to get along with cats. My foster mom says I like to chase squirrels if I get a chance.  I haven't let an operation for a torn ACL slow me down much. I am still receiving physical therapy three times a week, but I should be doing better soon.

My foster mom says I am a good girl.  I am okay on a leash, and I stay fairly close when off-leash. I come when I am called, and I am housetrained. I love to go for a rides in the car because I like being with my family all the time.  I would love to find a family that loves and cares for me, and gives me lots of attention!  Are you that family?

Bode & Marley
Centennial, CO

Marley is the bigger of the 2 and has more black ~ Bode has the bigger blaze

ESRA #2007-269CO

Bode

Age: 5-6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 65 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

We have been fostering Bode (and his sidekick Marley) for several weeks now.  He is housebroken, knows basic commands, and is eager to please.  He loves attention and will give occasional kisses when a face is within tongue distance.  He blended into our pack easily, respectful of our alpha & playful with the younger set.  Rides and waits well in the car, is fine in the house (with our dogs) when we're not home but will also stay in our dog run when necessary with few complaints.  He and Marley have been together since they were young, so it would be nice if they could stay together - but separate homes will be considered.

ESRA #2007-268CO

Marley

Age: 5-6 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 75 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

We have been fostering Marley (and his sidekick Bode) for several weeks now.  He is housebroken, knows basic commands, and is eager to please.  Marley is ... well, lets come out & say it ... fat.  Which isn't helped by the fact that he is a confirmed couch potato.  We are working on that with diet food and he's actually starting to like his veggies!  He is the more dominant of the pair - but flexible (or lazy) enough to respect our existing pack structure.  Rides & waits well in the car, is fine in the house (with our dogs) when we're not home but will also stay in our dog run when necessary with few complaints.  He and Bode have been together since they were young, so it would be nice if they could stay together - but separate homes will be considered.

ZARA
Parker, CO

ESRA #2007-871UT

Age: 3-4 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 31 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

My name is Zara and I am a little cutie from Salt Lake City with a long tail. I am affectionate, but not needy, friendly and outgoing and love people of all ages.  I would probably be best with children age 5 or older, since I am a high energy girl.  I love to greet my people when they come home. I am housetrained and already know how to use a doggie door.  I am not a counter surfer, mainly because I am too short to reach.

I enjoy riding in cars.  I really enjoy wrestling and playing with other dogs and would love a home with another doggie playmate. My favorite plaything is a chew-bone.  I enjoy walking but do tug a bit on a leash, so will need a little training in that area.

I get along well with dog-savvy cats. You know, the kind that don't run when you get close to them. According to my family, I just keep getting sweeter and more loving everyday!

PACO
Rock Springs, WY

ESRA # 2007-055UT

Age: 7 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

My name is Paco and I think life is a party. I love people, I love to play, and I like to follow my Foster mom everywhere. At this point I am more interested in playing with people than other dogs. I am a bouncy young guy who would love an active family to keep me busy. No young children, since I tend to move pretty quick. I like car rides and tend to bounce around a bit.

I am housetrained, and I chew on my toys and leave my Foster Mom's things alone. I even come when someone calls P A C O. Actually, I am really pretty good, for a puppy.

LuLu
Parker, CO

ESRA #2007-707UT

Age: 8 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Meet LuLu!  She also comes to LuLee, LuLuBelle, but mostly just Lu.  She is a young lady at heart.  If you could ask Lu about her age, she would say Eight, Schmate!!  It is just a number.  Lu is a playful, loving girl.  She often trots around the back yard like a queen.  Lu likes Lu!  We think she thinks she is the most beautiful dog to have graced the universe.  She is a hoot.

Lu came into foster care from Utah.  The shelter there did not know anything about her – just a stray.  There is a family in Utah who let a wonderful Springer slip right through the fingers!  Lu is as loving a girl as any we have had the luck to meet.  She loves to be around us and she has quite a sense of humor.  Lu has the speed to pick up a sock and hi-tail it out of the room before we can even say a word.  When we peek around the corner she is standing there with a big smile on her face and her tail wagging a million times a minute.  Lu loves to go for walks, she is good in the car and is learning commands like a dog half her age.

Being that Lu tolerates her foster brothers and sisters – she would be happiest as an only dog.  She does get along fairly well with them, so if you think you have a pup at home that would match Lu’s personality please inquire about her.  Lu is a lovely, sweet lady who would love to meet you.

SCOOTER
Calhan, CO

ESRA #2007-879UT

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

My original family took very good care of me, but is leaving the country, so needed to find me another home.  I get along well with other friendly dogs and 'dog-friendly" cats.  I love to run and chase, especially if it involves a ball, what fun!  I really love my ball!

I have learned some basic commands, such as; SIT, SHAKE, DOWN, WAIT, but could use a bit of training on leash walking. I am house trained and well behaved in the house.  I love people and will gently nibble on your hand.  I enjoy walks and rides in the car.  I would probably do best in either an adult family or a family with older children.

BECKY
Lonetree, CO

ESRA # 2007-769CO

Age: Senior
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred

No one told Becky that she is a senior dog! Her playfulness and activity level are those of a dog half her age, reputed to be twelve. She is inquisitive, and is interested in everything you do, even taking a shower.  She talks in her own special language of gurgles, groans, phony little growlie noises, and a soft throaty bark that probably won't scare away the U.P.S. man. She loves to play ball, and the related game of keep away.

Becky is good on the leash, good riding in the car, even good with a cat and another dog.  She came to ESRA nicely trained in ladylike manners: she knows Sit, Down, Shake Paw for food, and Off. She doesn't get on the furniture (usually), counter surf, or beg at the table.  She would do best in a home where someone is home during the day, and would take her for a couple of walks each day.  She needs a fenced yard, but doesn't want to be out there all alone. This perky girl offers a lot of cheerful companionship and deserves a loving home.

FLOSSIE
Arnold, NE

ESRA # 2007-818KS

Age: 9 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 42 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred

Flossie! An old-fashioned name for a stately gal.  Miss Flossie is a beautiful AKC show girl who was raised to behave with good manners. She proudly wears a collar that states, "Never naughty, always nice!"  She greets her visitors by sitting down and offering a paw for a shake.  How nice!

Miss Flossie is housetrained, invisible fence trained, travels well after the excitement  of getting to go for a car ride wears off, and knows basic commands.  She is a typical springer on the leash; always eager to get to her destination before you!  She enjoys playing with toys, chewing on bones, and napping on cushions!  Her favorite playmate is our eleven- month-old foster boy, Jack, though she does have to remind him to mind his manners from time to time!

Flossie has a soft spot for older men, as she was a daddy's girl.  Flossie has always had excellent care. Her sweet nature, and love for all people, is a testament to that. Now that her elderly family can no longer care for her, she seeks a new loving home. Please respond if it is you.

BUDDY
Salt Logan, UT

ESRA #2007-739UT

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-bred

Hi! My name is Buddy. I'm the happiest dog you will ever want to meet. My tail is always wagging, and if I see a person I know, my whole back end gets going, too. I'll greet you with my paw on your arm to make sure you are looking at me.

My previous family let me go because I wasn't any good at hunting, and after two years, they gave up. Now I am looking for my forever home where my main job will be snoozing at your feet and accompanying any family member on expeditions and errands. That's my calling!

I am very good on a leash, and I am very well house trained. My foster mom and dad think I am a real “catch” and they just adore the way I always come when called and do not wander off. I love all the people I meet and I am friendly with all dogs. When I see an aggressive dog, I duck behind my people. I am not a dominant dog, and prefer to let other dogs take the lead. My foster family has the brattiest girl Brittany and she is always snatching rawhides right out of my mouth and I let her get away with it to keep peace in the dog yard.

My foster family thinks that I would be good as a dog among others or a solo dog. I'm great with kids but I really love adults, too, as long as they are willing to take me on long walks to keep off my pudge which I get because people cannot resist giving me treats. So far I ignore cats.

Check out my really long ears. They actually dip into the water dish when I'm drinking. My new family will have to commit to regular combings to keep my beautiful long hair from getting tangled. As you can see from this photo, my previous family didn't do it and I am missing whole sections of my lovely long “feathers” where the rescue people had to cut out the mats. But hey, I'm worth it!!! I'll promise to light up your life and be cheerful no matter what. Won't you give me a chance?

MICKEY
Denver, CO

ESRA #2007-723UT

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Mickey is a wonderful, affectionate, very active dog with a charming personality.  He loves to play fetch.  If no one is around to play fetch with him, he will run to the top of the stairs with a tennis ball in his mouth, drop the ball down the stairs, run after it, get the ball, and repeat the process all over again, and again.  Mickey also enjoys going for long walks and playing in the water.

Mickey loves people of all ages.  He is gentle with little children and patient with them, but might not notice them if they get in the way during a game of fetch!  Mickey is leash trained and knows his basic commands.  He obeys, but needs to be reminded.  It would help Mickey a great deal to have some more training classes.  Mickey gets along very well with other dogs.

Please come and meet Mickey, he will win your heart!

TRUFFLES
Ouray, CO

ESRA # 2007-801UT

Age: 4 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 54 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Happy Truffles (formerly known as Tuff E Nuff) is a beautiful black and white curly haired guy with a nonstop Springer smile and a tail that never stops wagging.  He was renamed Truffles because he is a sweet as chocolate.  This active Happy dog will Sit or give a High Five for treats.

Truffles was reluctantly relinquished by his owner due to a series of unfortunate events.  The good loving care provided by his former owner is evident in his condition and demeanor. He is very unique, in that he has one blue eye.

Truffles was raised with children, and is reported to do well with them.  Truffles gets on well with other dogs, and in two weeks has come a long way in learning that cats rule.   He is eager to ride in the car, and prefers to ride shot-gun.  He stays close with his foster parents when off lead around the farm, and comes readily when called.  Truffles is eager to please, quickly learned the dog doors, and the rules of the house.  Truffles is eagerly awaiting his Forever Home.

JAKE
Salt Sandy, UT

ESRA #2007-745UT

Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 42 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Hi!  My name is Jake.  I was picked up as a stray and brought to the Payson City Animal Shelter in Payson, Utah.  Thankfully, my foster mom rescued me because my time was up!  Boy, am grateful.  I love to be with people and am always right by their side.  I have good manners in the house and I am house trained.  My foster mom says I am the smartest dog she has met in a long time.  I am quickly learning my basic commands.  I can use the doggy door and love everyone I meet.  I even wag my tail at people who walk by the car.  I love kids and get along with them great!  I have only been around cats a few times.  I am nice to cats, but I might chase them if they run.  My favorite toys are stuffed animals.  I love to toss them in the air and run around the yard with them in my mouth.  I also like to chew on bones and I like to play fetch with tennis balls.  I will fit in great with any active lifestyle.  I am very athletic.  I run and jump like a champ.  I have fantastic fur that is just the right length.  It hardly gets tangled at all and is easy to brush.  I have the most soulful brown eyes and expressive face.  Sometimes it looks like I am smiling!  You can see how gorgeous I am from my photos.

I love my foster family, but know they cannot keep me forever.  My foster family loves me and says I am a joy to have around.  They are sure that I am going to make some person or family very happy.  I am anxious to find my Forever Home.

TOBY
Arnold, NE

ESRA # 2006-720WY

Age: 5 Years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 49 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Toby, Toby, Toby has eyes like buttons and front feet that turn out, this guy’s a real lover, a family man - no doubt!

Toby is a very sweet boy that came to us from a shelter with the sad comment from his owner, “No time for this dog"... Toby tries so hard to please! He is housetrained,, invisible fence trained, and rides so quietly in the car, you could almost forget that he is there, except for the occasional kisses he gives from the back seat. He gets along well with dogs and has done well with children too. He is not good with the cat as he prefers to hunt him, as he would any small animal. He gets excited when he goes for a walk and will pull on the leash until he is reminded to heal, which he can do very well. He can have a big dog bark (he has not barked much since his first week here) that he uses to greet other dogs and visitors to the house that quickly turn into wiggles once he is petted or allowed to sniff his canine guests. He loves to nibble on your fingers (no teeth used!) when he is feeling silly. Though he does not get up on the furniture, he does love to snuggle at the foot of the bed at night. He shares our lap from time to time while we watch TV and is careful not to wiggle at all, lest we ask him to get down :) He loves treats and has mastered the mournful look at the dinner table... no we don’t give in.... but it is sooo hard!

Love and a forever home is what this boy deserves. Perhaps you could add the next verse to his life!

Mattie, what a sweet heart she is!  This little love bug will steal your heart from the first moment you meet her.

Mattie is an active young lady who loves to play.  She plays and plays with her foster brothers and sister.  Mattie is a very smart Springer.  She has obviously had some training in her past.  Of the group, Mattie is the first to sit for a treat.  She walks well on the leash, comes running when called and is learning to be a good girl in the car.  Mattie has been nothing but a lady in the house.

Mattie is the Queen of Cuddling!  She snuggles up to her foster siblings and will curl right up in your lap when given the opportunity.  Mattie has not met a person she has not liked.  She greets everyone with the same enthusiasm - a big smile and a tail that won’t stop wagging.  Speaking of tails, Mattie has a beautiful, full tail.

Mattie is a lovely, energetic Springer who seems to have such a great time doing whatever it is she is doing.  She especially likes those times when she is with her people.  Mattie is a very affectionate girl who is looking to be the apple of her new family’s eye.

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 52 lbs.
Variety: Bench-bred

Cody!  What a sweet, sweet boy he is!!  This very loving young man came to us from Pueblo as a stray.  There is some one in Pueblo who does not know what they let slip away.  Cody is truly a wonderful Springer.

Cody has the curiosity and innocence of a puppy.  He has such joy and zest for life one cannot help but smile.  Cody has an amazing way of warming your heart when he looks at you.  He is a Velcro Springer thru and thru.  Cody LOVES to be with you – wherever that may be.  Inside, outside he is your constant companion.

There are 2 other Springer boys in the house, Cody respects them both.  He gets along with both of them and likes to cuddle up next to Sam.  But given the chance – Cody will cuddle up right next to you.  It appears that Cody has not had many rules in the past ~ however, he is an enthusiastic learner.  Cody rides great in the car, walks well on leash, sits when asked…eventually, and comes running when you call his name.

If you are looking for a Springer to adore you, to love and be loved – then you must meet Cody.  He will steal your heart!

Age: 6 years
Gender: Female
Color: Black/White
Weight: 47 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Meet Samantha! She and Frodo were found together as strays and
she can't understand why they are both in rescue either! She is a beautiful
black and white girl, well nourished (but shapely!), who is a sweet, loving
ESS, who wags her tail most of the time when she is awake and around her
humans. Samantha is respectful of her foster brothers, and just wants to fit
in. She has a great time at the dog park meeting other dogs and people. She
gets along well with younger and older children, other dogs, cats, and men
and women. She is polite in the house, does not counter surf, dig, or chew on
anything other than her toys (usually a tennis ball). She loves to play
fletch with her tennis ball...for a while. Samantha needs a only a moderate
amount of exercise. She does well on and off leash. This girl would do well
in a family home, with adults or with seniors. She would do best either as
an only dog or with a male canine companion. She sounds wonderful...and she
is! Let Jim know if you are interested in meeting Samantha!

Owen, aka Owen Wilson (hey, we all have our dreams!) is a totally sweet, loving ESS who was abandoned and ended up in a Utah shelter as a stray.  He is a loving, undemanding companion, who gets along well with his foster brother and sister.  He is recovering from a respiratory infection and gaining energy and weight in his loving foster home. Owen is deaf and is learning to respond to hand signals from his foster mom. Owen does not require a great deal of exercise, but it looking for a Forever Family that will provide the love and care he wants and needs.  He has been a true joy for his foster family and all the ESRA volunteers who helped with his rescue.

Update 4/22/07:  Owen is a new dog since he has recovered from his pneumonia and had several teeth extracted.  He jumps up on the bed (but only if invited, of course!), and is showing the spirit and energy typical of an ESS! He would adapt well to an apartment or townhome lifestyle.

His foster mom tells us:  "Once you look into Owen's adoring eyes, see the gray around the muzzle, and stroke the soft, downy fur, you're hooked. He only wants to be loved and will offer his undying devotion in exchange. Owen hasn't met a person he doesn't like, nor a dog that he can't bring around. Owen epitomizes the term of elderly gentleman. That's exactly what he is....an elderly gentle dog looking for a person to devote himself to.

ZORRO
Lone Tree, CO

ESRA #2007-740UT

Age: 2 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 52 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

I am Zorro.  Like the famous swordsman, I wear a black mask.  And like the original Zorro, I make the characteristic Z pattern, but I do it as I run ~ zig-zagging back and forth.  That's because I used to like to hunt with my first owner.  Now I like to be outside a lot looking for bunnies, birds and squirrels.  Actually, I have been known to catch birds out of mid-air!  I need lots of exercise to burn off some of my high energy.  However, in the house I am very well behaved and eagerly obey my foster parents.

I am very friendly and love people.  I particularly like to sit on laps and give kisses.  So much for being a macho bird dog!  I get along well with other dogs.  I haven't been around kids or cats so I don't know how I feel about them.  But I think cats look like they would be fun to hunt!

ESRA #2007-580CO - Dottie

Age: 9 & 7 years
Gender: Male & Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 & 35 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

My name is Trigger and life is starting to look better for me.  Me and my best friend, Dottie, were turned into a shelter by our family after many years.  I guess sometimes it's hard to have a family and dogs, too.  We were rescued by ESRA with little time to spare and whisked away to the western slope.  We are now learning what it is like to be loved, to be a part of a family and what it means to romp on a farm.

I am starting to relax a bit now and enjoy the country. I would like to be in charge, if permitted, but I do well with men, women, children and cats, once I've gotten to know them.  I don't need to play alot.  My hips are not in great shape, but my foster mom is working on keeping me comfortable  I still love to go on walks, especially with my friend, Dottie.

Now let me tell you about Dottie!  She just loves to be with her people and is called a Love Bug!  She likes to water and loves to play ball.  She is totally what they call a velcro dog and needs to be with her people as much as possible.  She is kind of a sensitive girl who responds well to a gentle touch. She likes to cuddle, hug and loves belly rubs.

Trigger and Dottie's foster mom says:  Dottie and Trigger must be adopted together! They are partners and best friends and have survived a hard past together.  Although Dottie and Trigger get along well with other dogs, they would treasure the opportunity to be the only dogs in their Forever Home!

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 50 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Hi Folks!

I am a mellow fellow who came to ESRA from a shelter. I love to ride in the car, do well with my crate, respond well to commands and do pretty well on leash. I like to play with my squeaky toys and both by history and in my foster home I am doing well with young children. I am truly a Velcro dog and my foster family raves about my sweet nature.

I have shown no dominance issues and will roll over for a belly rub when I meet new people.  Nothing makes me happier than to be with my people and I would probably do best with a family that doesn't have to be gone for long periods of time. I ask for only a moderate amount of exercise, but am learning the joys of exercise with my foster father - so that may change and I become more fit!

If you think you might be the right family for me, please contact Jim!

HAZEL
Arnold, NE

ESRA # 2007-656UT

Age: 10 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 28 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Puppy Fun!  You can not help but smile around this little girl.  She is a reminder to enjoy life!

Hazel is housetrained, crate trained, and invisible fence trained. She rides quietly in the car enjoying the scenery along the way.  She is learning leash manners, but still has that puppy enthusiasm when she sees something new.  She doesn't chew up her toys and loves to prance around a room squeaking them with pride.

As a pup Hazel was chained.  Children would run past her as a game.  Hazel thought it was great fun to chase them and grab their clothing!  Of course as she grew bigger this became a problem.  We are working on new ways for her to play, and she is enjoying it very much!  She has found that attention in the form of getting your ears scratched is very nice!

Hazels adoptive family will need to continue to train her, and use positive rewards for her.  She is a bright little girl, ready to share her joy and enthusiasm with you.  As one visiting child observed - If you would have a wagging tail contest, Hazel would win!

Hi There!

My name is Frisbee and my foster family says I am a beautiful young boy with a very sweet disposition!  I have shown no aggression and get along with all the other dogs I have met, big and small. I love to play fetch and run around the yard.  And I love to have my ears scratched!

I am house trained, and the vet says I am a healthy boy! I am learning doggy manners from my foster family, and am doing well with my training. I am a little too interested in cats, so probably would be best in a home without a feline companion.

Color: Liver/White
Weight: 39 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred

Hi - My name is Ted, but my foster mom calls me Teddy.  She says I am pretty cute and adorable. I am a small package, but am pretty good looking, if I say so myself.

I came from a puppy mill near Colorado Springs - my foster mom thinks that I may have part of a breeding pair until the breeders decided they no longer needed me. The shelter was about ready to euthanize me because of my reserved nature.

I am a shy, sweet boy without an ounce of aggression.  I may not have had a lot of human contact. but I am learning to love being part of an ESS household.  I wag my docked tail non-stop when my foster mom comes home and I LOVE spending time with my foster brothers.

I need a family with a gentle touch who has the patience to help me learn to trust humans.  I really like having a canine companion or two who can help me learn the ropes.  I am a very polite boy who does not counter surf, learned the doggy door in no time flat and has very few expectations of my humans.  I would do best in a quiet household. I am totally house trained and am learning to seek attention from my foster family.

I am looking for a forever family to give me the chance that I haven't had so far in life!  If you think I might be the dog for your family, please let us know!

Love, Teddy

Hi!  My name is Abe.  I love people.  I am great with kids.  I am currently living with a 22 month old child and my foster mom says I couldn't be more gentle if I tried.  My obedience is fairly good, but I could use a little more training. I like other dogs.  And how about feline companions?  I probably would do best in a home without cats unless the cat will like me.  I think every animal is my new best friends.  I guess I can be annoying to some cats.  Go figure!  My foster mom says I have a little bit of separation anxiety...whatever that means.  I just like to follow my foster mom everywhere ~ even in the shower.  I love to go on walks and I don't pull much.  Napping near your feet is my favorite activity.  I also like to show off my toys to visitors.  I am a real sweetheart of a guy that really wants a family that will spend a lot of time with me.  Please give me a chance.

Hello!

My name is Cosmo!  I am an energetic boy who loves to run.  I love people and I love other dogs.   I am pretty good on leash, and excellent off leash.  I learned the doggy door in no time, and am completely house trained. I only chew on my toys. I don't counter surf, but my foster mom says that may be because I'm not tall enough! I am overweight, but my foster mom is working on helping me to lose a few pounds.

I am a joyful Springer who has a zest for life, despite some hard times before Becky picked me up from Pueblo Animal Services. My previous family did not get veterinary care for my infected foot, so I have to have two of my toes amputated. I don't expect that will keep my down for long!

My foster mom says: Cosmo is an incredibly happy dog who never stops waggling.  His affection goes beyond humans to dogs.  Plus that, as the vet said -  He smiles nonstop.

Oh MY ... What a nice dog!

Maggie is a love.  She so enjoys being with  you.  Maggs is a compact, active girl, that is so much fun to have around.  She gets along well with other dogs, is good with children, knows tricks (my favorite is her ability to SPEAK or whisper), and follows basic commands.  She pulls somewhat on the leash, but does well off leash.  She is a bit of a bouncer in the car.  In the house, you will find her napping on her foster dad's lap while he watches TV.   Maggie is invisible fence trained, and house trained.  She has been hunting before, but has no formal training.  Due to her zest for hunting, cats are a no-no.

Come meet Miss Maggie... but be prepared to take her home!

Age: 18 months
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 42 lbs.

“Anna Banana”... fun, fun, fun!

Annie is a typical young Springer girl with a beautiful dark, dark, liver coat and a full tail.  She is bright, loving, alert and athletic!

This beauty is a wonderful example of her field breeding.  She loves her off leash exercise time in the field!   She walks well on the leash once exercised, plays ball, knows basic commands and rides like a dream in the car.  In the house she loves to cuddle and hang out with the family.  She is great with dogs, but may find a cat just too much fun.

Annie, true to her “Springer” name has an amazing vertical jump and can jump/climb a six foot fence.  She safely stays in our lidded dog kennel/ run and also respects our invisible fence.  An adopting family  must be able to provide for her safety in a similar manner.

Anna loves people and would be a happy camper, running partner, or any other activity her family would include her in.   Want to know more?  Drop us a line.

I know some basic commands.  Sit is my favorite.  I am pretty good on a leash, but I love to run off when I'm off leash (I will come back after I've had some fun).  My favorite thing to do is sleep on the bed with my head on the pillow.

My foster mom says I need to lose a little weight, so my pillow time is limited.  I've already lost a few pounds!

Hello!

My name is Winston and my foster family says that name fits me!  I am a stately gentleman who is remarkably spry for my age, and I am still a handsome boy!  I am friendly and outgoing, and love to play with tennis balls.  Sometimes I am downright bouncy!  My foster family says I have the Springer joy and spirit!  I like all people and am very comfortable in the company of other dogs.  I have little interest in cats, so no worry there.  I do well on and off leash, and am fully housetrained.  I ride well in the car.  I don't hear quite as well as I should due to mulitple past ear infections.

I am a well mannered boy, and just love being with my people.  My foster family says I am energetic and playful, and it is hard to believe I am a twelve-year-old! I would love to find a home that could provide me lots of companionship!

I am an affectionate boy who is getting fit, and learning to love exercise!  I come when I am called, love being with my people, and I love to snuggle with them.  I am gentle and good-natured, and I love to rest my head on my foster parents' laps. If  you rub my tummy, I will be your friend forever! My foster family says I am sweet and charming!

I need to be with a family who will help me continue to learn basic commands, and will help keep up my healthy diet and exercise.  I am definitely a Velcro dog, and would do well with a family that will give me lots of time and affection!

FLASH!!!   In a ... flash... this dog will steal your heart.

Flash was bred to be a great hunter and even began training, but all Flash wanted was to be a buddy.  Flash is gun-shy.  He prefers laps, couches, and kisses, to guns, kennels, and camo!

This sweetie pie is great on the leash, loves all dogs, kitties, and people of all ages.  He is house, crate, kennel,  and invisible fence trained.  He travels like a champ in the car, and has even proved to be a gentleman on motel stays. (Wow, 2 beds!)  Really, he is just an all around gentle, great dog.

Flash has so much love to give.  We would expect the same from his adopting family.

My name is Sam, but my foster family says Studley would fit me.  I'm a stunning black & white charmer, and so sweet I might start melting any minute!  My owners got divorced and gave me up.  But as the saying goes, change is good, and in my case, it's turning out VERY GOOD!  I was pretty scrawny when ESRA picked me up, so now I'm bulking up with good food here at my foster home, and working on my 12-pack!

They're saying I need obedience training.  I don't walk in a straight line when I'm supposed to heel. I like other dogs, and I'm pretty social. And this doggy door thing, what a concept!  I can go in and out whenever I want!

I'm pretty mellow and laid-back, but I love, love, love to play!  I even got my snooty foster sister to play with me!  (I'm not sure where she got her attitude - after all, she is from the same shelter as I am!)  I love being indoors.  At night, I sleep in my crate with the door wide open.  I wake up in the morning, wagging my tail and happy to be alive.

My name is Sadie. I was lost in Torrington, Wyoming. The nice police lady couldn't find my owners, so she called Springer Rescue and they came to get me! I am so lucky to be away from my previous situation. My neck is still healing from a too-tight bark collar.

My foster mom thinks that if I were a human, I would be the most popular girl in school! I am enthusiastic, cheerful, and cute. I am less than one year old and I only weigh 30 pounds. My new doctor, Angel Vet, said I am bit stunted. I am taking that as a compliment! My petite size makes it easier for me to sit on your lap! I get along with other dogs. I am not sure about cats because the cat who lives at my foster home won't let me near her. (I do like the cat box, but my foster mom told me not to tell you that!)

I will be spayed next week. After some R&R, I will be ready to go to my Forever Home!

I was found wandering around in Pueblo.  The very nice people at the shelter there took great care of me until Pam picked me up and drove me here.  I am the only girl in the house other than my foster mom ~ she says we are out numbered.  I get along with my foster brothers and like to watch them play from the couch.  I really like it when it is quiet in the house.   I love to be petted and told how sweet I am.  I am a shy, cautious girl who is full of love and devotion.  All I need is a home to love me and help me become the beautiful, joyful Springer that I was meant to be.

I've been doing a bit of traveling lately!  I started out in Utah and was on my own until the shelter took me in.  Lora and her family picked me up and I ended up in Denver!  Whew!  It's enough to wear a guy out, so I sometimes curl up at my foster mom's feet when she's on the computer.

I am a busy boy when I'm not napping, checking everything out and making sure I live up to the label of velcro dog.  I ride well in the car, am very comfortable with my crate and have shown no dominance issues. I like men, women and children and absolutely love going to the dog park! My foster mom says I need to work on my manners - I like to counter surf and don't always wait my turn going out the door.  I do jump up once in a while, but I'm very gentle about it!

You may wonder about my name.  When I had that surgery, I got a little bored in my kennel.  The vet's staff said I tried to play soccer with my food bowl.  (I guess I have some good moves!)

So if you want a sweet, cuddly, playful guy who wants to hang with you and you are willing to work on some manners, I'm your boy!

If you are interested in finding out more about me or meeting me, you'll need to fill out an application here.

ESRA #2007-0084UT

Age: 8 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 33 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Here's Eddddiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!   I am also known as Eddie Haskall, Fast Eddie,  Edward Scissor Paws, and just plain ol' Edward.  I know all my names and come running when my foster mom and dad call me.  They say that I am as cute as a button!

I LOVE to play!  Throw a ball or Frisbee and I will chase it all afternoon and bring it right back to you.  Sometimes I have soooo much energy my foster mom and dad say that they wish they could bottle it!  I love to play with my foster brother Sam and I get along with my other foster brother and sister too...they just don't like to play like Sam and me.

I am proud to say that I have not had one accident in the house!!  I do have a tendency to see what is on the kitchen counters ~ I do get off when asked...I guess that is a good thing.  I still like to sleep in my crate at night, it is my very own area for me and my toys.  About my leash skills...I guess I am a work in progress.  I am pretty sure that I would like to go hiking and maybe start running with my person in a few months...I am still little you know.  If your family has older kids I would really like to wrestle and play with them.  Best of all,  would be just to hang out with you!  I love my people and want to be part of everything you do.

So, if you are looking for an energetic, furry, loving member of your family - contact Pam.  She knows all about me and can tell you everything I need.

Update April 10, 2007: I am still accident free in the house.  I have graduated from my kennel ~ at night I get to sleep anywhere I want in my foster mom and dads room.  I am becoming quite the gentleman on walks and am learning to sit and wait before crossing the street.  I have become a cuddle bug according to my foster mom.

Age: 2 years old
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Hello Springer Lovers!

My name is Docker and everybody tells me I am one lovable Springer!  I am a young guy and I love to play! I am friendly and outgoing, and probably am one of those Velcro dogs! I love to be with my humans, and have lots of love and affection to give them.  I enjoy other dogs to play with, but would also be happy as a single dog, too.  The humans who have cared for me say that I am quite charming!

I get pretty excited when I got on walks, and tend to pull in the beginning, but I want to please my humans, so I am open to reconsidering the pulling.  My mission is to find my Forever Family, and I will do my very best to make them happy.  I can probably do well with children who are school age or older. I also could be very happy with an active family with no children. I do okay with cats, too, although sometimes I want to chase them.  I know some of the basic commands. I am crate trained, housetrained, and doggy door trained!  Although I am tempted to counter surf, I have resisted! Darn!

If you are interested in finding out more about me or meeting me, you'll need to fill out an application here.

Hayden.... The Best Kept Secret in ESRA!

Wow what an undiscovered treasure!  Hayden has been enjoying the comforts of foster care for the past two years.  What has kept him from being adopted is a pure mystery.  This undercover lover boy is certainly ready for a Forever Home!

Hayden is a super-sweet boy with great house manners.  He loves to give and receive attention, and even though he is a bit bigger, can manage to snuggle into your lap for a bit of TV watching.  His coat is like velvet and a joy to pet as you share your days troubles with him (he is a good listener too!).  He greets us when we get home from work with a toy in his mouth and a wiggle in his tail.  He travels like a gentleman, gets along great with other dogs, is invisible fence trained, is good off leash, and with reminders walks fine on lead.  He makes friends wherever he goes.

2007 must be this boy's year!  He is no longer undercover, but ready to steal your heart.  Solving this mystery takes no more than a loving home.  Is it yours?

He is really a super dog!

Age: 5-6  years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 53 lbs.
Variety: Field

Hey Pardner, I'm Duke ~ I'm a tall drink of water and about as mellow as The Duke!  I am very polite, I wait to be invited to do things, I really love being around everyone ~ I wag my tail nonstop ALL THE TIME.  I'm such a wigglebutt that I look like I'm dancing in place.  I get along with everyone and other dogs, we don't know about cats.  I'm housetrained, good on a leash and very quiet, no one in my foster home has heard my voice so far ~ I'm just thrilled to have been rescued and awaiting my forever home.

If you are looking for a quiet, loving, snuggly fellow ~ look no further!  I'm not the high energy springer, I'm the way-laid-back, quiet but sincere, low maintenance type.  I don't fetch, but I would be a great running partner and I've been known to quietly play with toys if I'm in the right mood.  I would rather just hang out and be your best buddy in the world.

Jenny
Westminster, CO

ESRA #2007-046UT

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field

Jenny is extremely friendly, affectionate and LOVES to play.  She loves
attention and thinks she should be a lap dog.  She loves to have her ears,
chest and belly rubbed.  She's great with people of all ages, but might be
too energetic for very young children.  Jenny loves other dogs and loves to
play with them.  She likes rough and tumble play.  Jenny chases cats, so a
cat free home is probably best for her.

Jenny has spent most of her life either on a chain in the backyard or
running loose, regardless of the weather.  Jenny knows how to sit, use a
doggy door, is house trained and loves her crate. She has adjusted to life
inside her foster home perfectly.

Jenny is a wonderful dog!  She will make a great addition to someone's
family.  She is just too social and energetic to live her life on a chain
with no attention.  She deserves a family who will spend time with her and
train her.

Meet Sam the Smiler!  What a very handsome boy he is.  Sam is very proud of himself and his smile…especially since not all of his past days gave him something to smile about.

Sam is as happy-go-lucky as they come.  He is sweet as the day is long.  Sam loves to play ball, go for walks and just hang out and watch a good movie.  He is a great heater on those cold nights too.  Sam is looking for someone to love and for someone to love him.  Sam gets along great with his foster sister and brother.  He is playful with them and doesn't mind sharing a couch pillow with either of them.  Sam also been around kids and has been nothing but a perfect gentleman.  He is patient, kind and appropriate with them.  Sam loves to ride in the car, behaves himself on walks and knows just about all the basic commands.  He is so very willing to please that any new tricks or games that you would like to teach him will be easily taught.  Sam loves any time that he can interact with you.

CEDAR
Littleton, CO

ESRA # 2006-754UT

Age: 1 year
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 42 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Cedar is a beautiful, young and energetic Springer.  She has ticking that other Springer's are envious of.  Cedar's markings are as unique as her personality.

Cedar came to us just before Halloween.  She wore her costume like a trooper!  She hardly ever tried to remove her hat from her head.  She enjoyed watching all the kids in their costumes with her foster brother.  Cedar loves visitors and greets them with enthusiasm.  Cedar is very loving and likes to be as close to you as possible.  She is truly a “Velcro” dog.  Cedar is still just a pup.  She is spunky and has a great sense of humor.  She likes to run around with your shoe when you get home, but she has never chewed up a thing (other than her own toys)!!  Cedar has mastered “Sit”.  She is working very hard on “Come” and “Off”.  Her leash and car riding skills are still in the development stages.  Cedar is very smart and needs a family who will spend the time with her that she needs to mature into the beautiful Springer she is.

Cedar is a very sweet, loving, energetic young girl.  She has so much love to give.  Cedar would love a home that would want to include her in every aspect of family life.  If Cedar sounds like just what your family needs, then let us know!

BUGGS

ESRA #2006-911UT

Age: 7years
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 60lbs.
Variety: Field

Hi!  My name is Buggs and my foster mom says that  I'm a great guy.  I'm a young 7 year old who is very happy and energetic.  I love people of all ages, especially children.  I like dogs, too.  I love to cuddle up next to you on the couch ~ I really like to have my belly rubbed and my lower back scratched.

I am house broken and know how to use a doggy door.  I know my basic commands: sit, stay, down, come and "NO".  I walk pretty well on a leash.  I get really excited at the start of the walk, but I calm down quickly.  I just want to please.

They tell me I'm very wiggly, very friendly and very sweet.  Who am I to argue?

Update 1/15/07: Buggs made the trip from  Vernal Utah to Denver today....more to come!

FLIPPER
Colorado Springs, CO

ESRA #2006-006SD

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 45 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Hello everyone! I'm Flipper, or you can call me "Chip". I'm a 'Smiling (and I do smile) Springer', pretty happy guy that needs someone to be with. I came from a home with 3 other ESS, so I'm good with other dogs, but I don't really need other dogs. I just really need someone to 'shadow'. I'm very Velcro so I'm not the type to leave home alone alot, and I am submissive. I am housetrained, easy going and not too bouncy. I've been known to counter surf, but hey, a guy's gotta snack sometime!

Update: I am a smart, happy and eager to please boy, working on my basic commands and doing pretty well. I don't play with toys or balls but I do love people, other dogs and I'm great with children. If you are looking for a cuddly, lap spaniel, couch potato, I'm the man!

My x-rays indicate that I have hip dysplasia, but you wouldn't know it by watching me get around, I can run, jump and do pretty much anything (including hopping baby gates!). Our rescue has a wonderful Vet in Laramie, WY (Dr. Doug Honken) that will provide the surgery, but I need to find my Forever Home to foster me so that I can get it done. We have a volunteer in WY that can provide the temporary care between surgeries and the adoption can be final when it's over. My birthday is coming up in June and I would love to celebrate it with my new family. If you are interested in giving me that perfect home, apply today! I'm waiting to meet you!

NATHAN
Longmont, CO

ESRA # 2006-891CO

Age: 3 years
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 40 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

Nathan is a bouncy, energetic Springer who loves people, loves to chase balls, and enjoys a good romp.  He has puppy energy and playfulness, but not some of the puppy behaviors.  He doesn't counter-surf, doesn't dig, and doesn't chew!  What a good deal!  Nathan does need some work on his leash-walking, and is learning to come when he is called.  He is crate trained and loves to ride in the car.

Nathan would do well in a family with children and would do well in an active home, as long as he is included in the activity. He needs a good amount of exercise. He wants nothing more than to be with his family as much as possible.  He would do best in a home that did not need to leave him for long periods of time. And Nathan is just a little too interested in cats, so he would do best in a home without feline family members!

This boy is a cuddler, loves his humans, and is ready to provide energy and Springer joy to the right Forever Family!

TOBY
Denver,CO

ESRA # 2006-774UT

Age: 7 months
Gender: Male
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 35 lbs.
Variety: Field-bred

This delightful pup has had a bit of a rough time lately, but still is a loving, cuddly, playful young boy!. Toby came to the attention of ESRA when his owners left him at the veterinarian's with a broken knee.  The family was unable to pay for the needed surgery.  A wonderful veterinarian in Laramie performed the surgery and Toby is currently recovering.  He will stay on a limited activity schedule for a couple more weeks due to a pin in his knee. Toby thinks it's a bit of a bummer, but he's a good sport about it.

Toby will need to have the pin removed around Thanksgiving and should be ready for adoption at that time, or could go to a foster/adopt home now.

Update 18 DEC 06:  Toby has had his pin removed and is working on regaining full function of his left.  His vet expects a full recovery! Toby has now moved to Denver and is still looking for his loving Forever Home.  More to come!

KIRBY
Arnold, NE

ESRA # 2006-758CO

Age: 1 Year
Gender: Male
Color: Black/White
Weight: 53 lbs.
Variety: Bench/Show-Bred

Young, beautiful, and in need of love and a good teacher.

Kirby is a beautiful young black and white springer with just a hint of brown on his eyebrows (almost a tri!). He is a sweet dog without an aggressive bone in his body. He loves his foster springer buddies and can be found playing tug of war with them one moment, and then snuggled up against them in a “puppy pile” the next. He is good with the cat also, preferring to leave him in peace.

Kirby has not had much positive training or human interaction before coming into ESRA care. He is learning house manners, leash etiquette 101, and that men are good people too! He is invisible fence trained. He has earned an A+ in Snuggling on the Bed, an A for Water Bowl Sloshing, an A in Car Rides, and a B+ in Sitting for a Treat. He is cautious and curious about everything right now. He frequently will give you that springer head tilt with his ears perked, as this way of life is all new to him. He has decided that indoor life is VERY GOOD and wants to be there with you.

This beautiful boy will require a family that is willing to train him with patience and love. You’ll be rewarded with a star pupil. Believe me... he’s a teacher’s pet!

MISSY
Arnold, NE

ESRA # 2006-866NE

Age: 2 years
Gender: Female
Color: Liver/White
Weight: 28 lbs.
Variety: Field-Bred

Meet Missy who is just a little bit of a Springer in size, a little bit of a lover and snuggler, and a little bit of a hunter! - She is just a “Little Miss”.

Missy is invisible fence trained, good with other dogs, okay (but not perfect!) around the cat, and LOVES to snuggle. She is a tiny girl, just the right size to settle into your lap or make it easy to take her for car rides (which she loves). She acts like she has never been on a leash before, so she is learning all about one. Thank goodness she is small so it does make it easier to control her (read she can not jerk you off your feet, hee hee)

She has quite a nose on her and once out in the field uses it! She needs reminders while she is working to stay with in range. She could use some guidance from an experienced trainer in that department.

Missy has the energy of a field Springer and should be exercised and challenged every day to make her a happy dog. If you enjoy the happiness a “little activity” can bring you - then you are ready to have a “Little Miss” in your home.
